I went shopping this afternoon for birthday presents for my niece, who's party I was going to the following day (so I thought). I bought some Play Doh (I'll have fun with that) and Becca suggested a couple of picture books. Pog by Lyn Lee, which she'd read to me on Thursday night (you really must ask her for a recital - her Pog voice is soooo cute) and Can't you Sleep Little Bear by Martin Waddell. I also found Sitting Ducks (Michael Bedard), which I might keep for myself, because it's a bit scary; and The Gruffalo. Of course I also bought some knives and fireworks in my capacity as a wicked uncle.
Then I went and sat in Borders for an hour reading the next bit of Ender's Shadow, which I'm determined to finish entirely in bookshops.
On my way out, I met
Niall and Mike. As an official
caption scrounger (I bought membership last year to pay for all the times I've popped in for an hour to say hello and see the NToEP), I followed them (via pizza) to the Union. There I scrounged (half of) George's pizza and was dragged (kicking and screaming, totally against my will, I'm sure you'll believe) to the Nosebag for tea and cake (very good this time).
I just want to say here how dead chuffed I was when
Ruth told me that she'd ordered me a Caption T-shirt, because she'd known I'd want one. I'd been kicking myself for forgetting to do this, particularly when I saw the cool design by
Jeremy. Thank you Jeremy, Ruth, and Caption Committee!
I saw lots of people, including Bump, who had grown considerably. I doubt I'll ever see it again (under that name or description). Matt gave me his card with a cat, a URL, and instructions Click on "projects" then "bad dollies in hell", which has scary photos of my mother's dolls.
National Theatre of Earth Prime was a solo performance by
Mark (thought he managed to drag in erstwhile collaborator, Penny, and others). It's always funny, though I often get lost because I haven't read the famous work it's usually based on. This time I understood a lot more because I don't think we were supposed to have read it (or at least admit to it). My only criticism: not enough
Ian insults.
